The MBA has issued a press release pertaining to the implementation of the B20 programme in the transport sector following the statement by YAB Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah b Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Plantation and Commodities on the same subject matter:

Kuala Lumpur, March 22, 2023 – The Malaysian Biodiesel Association (MBA) is pleased to note the statement by YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah b Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Plantation and Commodities which was reported by Bloomberg yesterday; that Malaysia’s B20 programme in the transport sector will be implemented in phases in the country.

Malaysia’s implementation of the B20 programme in the transport sector was launched in February 2020 and to date, was only rolled out in Pulau Langkawi, Kedah, Labuan and Sarawak. In this regard, the MBA urges the Malaysian Government to expedite the implementation of the B20 programme nationwide.

The implementation will put Malaysia at par with the national biodiesel mandates that are presently implemented in other countries around the globe, in particular countries that have a strong agricultural economy such as Indonesia (B35). It will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from diesel vehicles, thereby helping Malaysia to attain its GHG reduction commitment made in year 2015 during the Paris Climate Conference (COP 21) in France. The use of biodiesel will also contribute to the savings in foreign exchange and a long-term solution as a renewable energy (RE) for Malaysia’s energy security.

The MBA will continue to give our support and co-operation to the Government in the implementation of the national biodiesel programme, including studies and fuel trials on the use of higher blends of palm biodiesel (beyond B20) and in the various sectors. To this end, the Association also assures the consistency in supply and quality of palm biodiesel in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak for the B20 programme.
